Mirroring

Mirroring is a positivity exercise created to adapt the way you perceive someone else’s words and to teach you how your words are perceived by others. After a story is shared, a listener begins by saying “I heard” and then lets the speaker know the positive things they heard. This allows the listener to practice finding positivity and then allows the speaker to learn how their words are heard.

*Bring a handheld mirror and pass it along to each person to make the exercise more fun*

Each Power Circle has Sharing Time. Sharing Time is when each group member spends a short time sharing something that has happened to them recently. Afterwards, have each group member mirror a speaker and identify something positive that was shared.

Mirroring is also used to mirror what is heard within a Topic. Each Power Circle has 3 Topics to discuss. After each Topic is read to the group, each member has the opportunity to share what they understood from it by first stating “I heard”.
